Barefoot Training Certification
for Health & Fitness Professionals
The decision to become a Barefoot Training Specialist® is the first step towards joining our community of in-demand health and fitness professionals from around the world who have a solid understanding of foot function and barefoot science.
Athletic Trainers - EBFA foot and barefoot education programs are designed to present the latest research as it relates to restoring foot function, corrective exercises and athletic performance. With no established guidelines on barefoot training protocol, this is the only workshop that will fully prepare athletic trainers to better integrate barefoot training and foot fitness into their athlete's programming.
Personal Trainers - EBFA foot and barefoot education programs are designed to present the most effective programming for personal trainers. Whether a client's goal is corrective exercise, performance or weight management, barefoot and foot-specific training can create faster and greater results.
Movement Specialists - With the foot as the foundation to human movement, many movement dysfunctions treated by movement specialists integrate the foot. By understanding and implementing barefoot science and from the ground up corrective exercise techniques, movement specialists will be able to confidently address all movement dysfunctions.
Group Fitness Instructors - Looking to increase the challenge or creativity in a group exercise setting? By integrating barefoot training and foot-specific exercises, group fitness instructors are able to stand out among the competition while keeping their classes fun, fresh and effective.
Physical Therapists, Podiatrists & Chiropractors - Evidence supports corrective exercise techniques using barefoot training as a powerful aid for patients with ACL injuries, low back pain, ankle instability, SI joint dysfunction, hip labral injuries, and several other lower extremity difficulties. Explore how barefoot science can enhance the timing of muscle activation patterns and how this directly relates to the prevention of hip, knee, & foot injuries.
One of the hottest buzzwords currently in the health and fitness industry is "barefoot training". When we hear the words "barefoot training" most people immediately think about barefoot running and/or minimalist footwear.
What if I told you that the benefits and power behind barefoot science far exceeds running or walking barefoot or in minimalist shoes?
The Evidence Based Fitness Academy is an educational institution that is dedicated to changing the way the health and fitness industry look at foot & ankle function, human movement and barefoot science.
Our Barefoot Training Specialist® Program is designed to present the latest research in barefoot science as it relates to restoring foot function, corrective exercise and athletic performance.
Learn how barefoot training can change foot structure, improve neuromuscular activation patterns and reinforce integrated movement patterns of the lower extremity.
As the foundation to all EBFA education the BTS Level 1 Certification sets the foundation for advanced concepts in barefoot activation, reflexive stabilization and movement efficiency. With the foot as the only contact point between the body and the ground, this complex structure plays a critical role in the way in which our body stabilizes during dynamic movement.
In ths Level 1 Certification get ready to explore how to prep the body for movement by tapping into the nervous system with barefoot science, foot to core sequencing and reflexive stability via fascial lines.
**Please note that all of the exercises and concepts of the BTS Program can be performed barefoot or in minimal shoes.
Learn concepts including:
Further challenge your concept of from the ground up movement and foot to core sequencing with EBFA's Level 2 Certification. From heel strike to push-off, our foot dictates the way our body responds- and reacts- to every closed chain movement including walking, squatting and jumping.
In this advanced Level 2 workshop you will further explore the concept of foot to core as it relates to movement efficiency and the transfer of energy as it relates to gait. All attendees will learn the powerful assessment technique for walking and running gait.
Learn concepts including:
Join EBFA for our newest workshop in the BTS series. Get ready to take the concept of foot to core and movement efficiency to the spine and pelvis. With the foot as the foundation to our fascial postural alignment and function, the BTS Level 3 Certification will explore the application of foot to core sequencing together with pelvic rotation and spine mobility as it relates to human locomotion.
Created by EBFA Founder and Human Movement Specialist Dr. Emily Splichal you will learn how to apply activation drills of foot to core with mobility drills of the thoracic and lumbar spine for more rapid stabilization and efficient transfer of energy during bipedal locomotion.
Learn concepts including:
(includes manual, Barefoot Strong book, certification exam, t-shirt, RAD Roller and Resistance band)

In April 2012, I attended Dr. Emily's Foot & Ankle Level 1 Workshop. It was amazing. I learned a ton that was immediately applicable to the therapeutic ends I was working on with a number of different clients. Having been a high level athlete my whole life, I had my own share of lower leg issues I'd been trying to overcome for a number of years. I worked diligently on implementing and applying the information learned from Dr. Emily and I noticed incredible results myself.
When I learned that she would be back to our studio in September for a Barefoot Training Specialist® Workshop, I was ecstatic. We took much of what we had covered in April and applied it directly to program design. What was most helpful for me was the "foot typing", or the labeling and identification of various foot and ankle alignment patterns and how those patterns determine discrepancies and imbalances in muscles above the foot and ankle.
She did a superb job of presenting difficult topic matter and delivered us fantastic correctives for the case studies we observed. I'm so thankful to have taken the Barefoot training workshop and look for future opportunities to learn from EBFA! Thanks to Dr. Emily and her staff for having such a great product!

I first saw Dr. Emily at a presentation at Midest Mania in 2010. The material she presented was really interesting and she did an excellent job of presenting. I had some personal questions after the seminar with a foot injury I have been dealing with. I emailed her the questions and she got back to me RIGHT away with suggestions.
I was so excited when she did her Barefoot Training Specialist® Workshop in Chicago and I loved attending another seminar of hers. It is easy to see how passionate Dr Emily is about barefoot training and how much she wants to help people. She is a very talented Doctor, and the courses she teaches are extremely helpful to anyone looking to find more information about foot function.

One of the BEST courses I have taken in my over 25 years of attending education, in fitness. Not only was the information fascinating, smart and practical, Dr. Emily Splichal was so engaging and had an entertaining personality.
I cannot speak enough great things about her education! Thank you Dr Emily!!!

The Barefoot Training Specialist® Workshop is the only one of its type I’ve taken anywhere—and I’ve taken many. Without a basic understanding of the foot and ankle, no trainer is even close to complete when it comes to troubleshooting dysfunctions of the body.
To say I was excited at what I learned from the Barefoot Training Specialist® Workshop is an understatement. In my research I often come across studies about the knees and hip, or about the feet and knees, but I have yet to find a more completely integrated approach by a “conventional” practitioner than what Dr. Splichal has begun. She is the first clinician I know who has begun the process of tying the trunk to the pelvis to the knees to the ankles and feet, and I applaud her foresight and tireless enthusiasm.
Thanks for your work Dr. Splichal!
